Wow, surprisingly you speak also english, I thought the only foreign language you knew was the italian :twisted:
I was in France - Tignes, Val d'Isere
Austria - Schladming, Dachstein
Italy - Val di Sole( Marileva-Folgarida, Madonna di..., Ponte di Legno)
But I know, it's my subjective opinion only.
Val Gardena is one of the 2 Italian resort inserted in the list of 20 (or 25 I don't remember) top ski resort in the World. Val Gardena, like all Dolomites resorts, is also very beautiful in summer. The orange/pink rocks contrast with the green fields and create suggestive atmosphere and impressive landscape. I love Dolomites!

If You like so much dolomites then You probably look for beautiful, numerous and well prepared slopes. Is it?
In this case, I really reccomend you to try at least Trois Vallees, Zermatt-Cervinia and Kitzbuehel region before final conclusions.
Tignes/Val d'Isere is a top resort but mostly great for off-piste, and far behind Trois Vallees for beautiness, number,variety and grooming of slopes. (see a photo reportage here: http://www.skiforum.it/forum/showthread.php?t=15486&highlight=vallees)
The other resorts you have been are not matching the quality of dolomites, I agree with you.

Yes, You're absolutely right.
I love Val Gardena and next Sella Ronda resorts, because surrounding nature is amazing and local slopes are very well prepared and
transport facilities are high level.
Free skiing is really not for me.
I know Kitzbuehel, and Trois Valées, also Zermatt, but only from ski magazines and ski atlases.
Bay the way, Zermatt is Nr.1 in my ski wish-list. Skiing under Matternhorn must also be very nice, no doubt.
But I have seen Sasslong least once a year, I have to go off the Seceda towards St.Ulrich, etc.
Simply Val Gardena is my Heart issue.
In January 2010 I will go there after the sixteenth ...
And then the other resorts missing money.

Zermatt is a quite expensive place, you should also consider to stay in Cervinia and then skiing mostly in Zermatt.
In Trois Vallees (as in all France) you can easily find accomodation in apartment for 15-30 euro per day per person, allowing a great budget skiing in a resort second to none, non only for the number of slope kilometres but EXPECIALLY for the quality, variety and lenght. There is simply all the possible snow and landscape conditions, it's up to you to chose every day. Only great slopes, no walks to cross a village, no forced skiwegs, no horizontal or descending lifts, no forced boring link slopes to get somewhere where you can finally start to enjoy, but worrying to get back in time......
Say, you are in Val Gardena and you chose to go to make the Gran Risa, great slope, but skiing until there is nothing special and time waster (a part for the great landscapes), and this is a normal situation in dolomites but absolutely impossible in trois vallees where 95% of slopes is a really interesting slope worth to try

don't worry marosh, when pierr will get older, he'll buy a small chalet in the shadow of the sassolungo, driking grappa and eating polenta all day long

for the price of a chalet under Sassolungo, I would buy a loft in New York for shopping and culture, a sailing boat to navigate Caraibi, and a studio in Meribel for the winter season..... how about that?
