Austria

Austria is probably the best country for skiing...

Austria is a ski paradise, in my opinion probably better than Italy and maybe also than France and Switzerlad :D
There are a lot of skiresort in Austria, where are you going to go?
I only know Stubai and St. Anton am Arlberg. I skied only one time in Axamer Lizum and in Gerlos (Zillertal Arena). Skiforum users also like Ischgl.

I skied in Soelden in the otztal valley this december, I like so much this resort: very good slopes, a lot of apreski and a very beautiful landscape.

Very good site. I also suggest to take a look at the official site of each resort.
For example:

has anyone here ever skied in austria??? im going there soon and would like to know a good place.

I´m dreadfully sorry that I didn´t see your message any earlier and really I hope, I´m not too late to warn you.
But I fear the worst.

To my knowledge, nobody ever skied in Austria. Ever.
The reason is simple: dangerous slopes and cliffs all over the place, snow sliding off all the time causing nasty avalanches...
You get the picture: a real skier´s nightmare.

Apparently someone made an attempt long ago, but eventually he gave up his purpose and tried to get down into the italian valley Val Senales, where he died in a misterious accident.
By tha way, most Austrians have serious troubles with such an unspeakable valley name and they prefer to use "Schnalstal" instead, which is much easier.
Anyway, this unfortunate adventurer was found a while later by an italian tourist passing by.
You will possibly remember the tourist´s name since it was for a while in all newspapers: Reinhold Messner.
Now you might argue: that is a pretty odd name for an italian tourist and, yes, well, ... long story.

After that no further attempt to ski in Austria was ever documented.
There are actually a few austrian-born skiers, I believe I heard of some Axel Naglich once, but they prefer to spend their ski holidays in safe resorts like Mt. Cook in New Zealand or Mt. St. Elias in Alaska.

So, hopefully you´ll get the message: ski safe, have fun, forget Austria.
