Deadly accident on the Matterhorn;
Descrizione: Footage from a documentary about Air Zermatt, shot by the Swiss Television "Schweizer Fernsehen". We join the mountain rescue services of Air Zermatt in the Swiss Alps during a rescue of three alpinists on the Matterhorn mountain. Unfortunately the crash turned out to be fatal: the Air Zermatt crew has to recover the death bodies from the glacier. www.air-zermatt.ch http The Alpine Rescue Center offers courses on a high level that prepares rescuers for the challenging operations under extreme conditions. Practising Emergency Medical Service in the mountains is extremely challenging. High altitude, extreme temperatures, strong winds, unpredictable weather, weight issues, limited resources and no place for mistakes. After successfully completing the courses, a rescuer or paramedic might achieve the International Diploma of Mountain Emergency Medicine for Emergency Physicians or Paramedics, certified by ICAR, UIAA and ISMM.

Glacier Express - Switzerland;
Descrizione: HD version: youtu.be The Glacier Express is a train which connects the two major mountain resorts of St. Moritz and Zermatt in the Swiss Alps. It is not an "express" in the sense of being a high-speed train but rather in the sense that it provides a one-seat ride for a long duration travel. In fact it has the reputation of being the slowest express train in the world. It takes 7,5 hours to journey across 291 bridges, through 91 tunnels and across the Oberalp Pass on the highest point at 2033 m (6670 ft) in altitude. The entire line is metre gauge (narrow gauge railway). The Glacier Express is run jointly by two private Swiss railways, the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGB) and the Rhätische Bahn (RhB), who also operate the regular local trains and freight trains over the same route. The panorama cars were introduced in 2006. I decided to take this trip after I have seen a scene of the Glacier Express in the IMAX documentary film "The Alps". September 6, 2009

A tour of the Italian Lakes Garda, Como and Maggiore also provided the opportunity to travel into the Swiss mountain resort of Zermatt from where a 40-minute mountain train journey through aromatic Stone Pine and Larch, led to the 3089m high station of Gornergrat and impressive views of perhaps the most familiar mountain in the European Alps and Switzerland's most famous landmark, the mighty 4478m Matterhorn. Switzerland's highest open-air station on the Gornergrat Bahn electric railway opened for business in 1898, hauling tourists from Zermatt to this scenic platform with such impressive views of the mountain that derives its name from the German words 'Matte', translating to valley or meadow, and 'Horn' which means peak. With time to spend at Lake Lugano or just to wander around the modern, trendy and stylish city, the tour included a visit to a site of one of Switzerland's most famous exports at the Caslano chocolate factory!

Descrizione: Recorded August 16, 2011: The trip on the Glacier Express is a 7½ hour railway journey across 291 bridges, through 91 tunnels and across the Oberalp Pass. The train is not an "express" in the sense of being a high-speed train, in fact it has the reputation of being the slowest express train in the world. It was a bright and sunny day for this long train journey, which I thought at the time was good news. But it created such horrific glare on the windows much of what I shot was totally unusable. Descrizione: The Patrouille des Glaciers race took place from April 27 to 30, 2006. This biennial ski race starts in Zermatt and finishes in Verbier (53 km with 3994 m of vertical gain). Despite unstable weather conditions, the winners set a new speed record. The team made up of Stéphane Brosse and Patrick Blanc (both French) and the Italian Guido Giacomelli finished the race in 6h18'48". They beat the previous record they set in 2004 by 12 minutes! La Patrouille des Glaciers s'est déroulée du 27 au 30 avril 2006. Cette course d'exception a lieu tous les deux ans et relie Zermatt à Verbier (53 km, 3 994 m de dénivelé positif). Contre toute attente, le record est tombé cette année malgré des conditions météo capricieuses. La patrouille des Français Stéphane Brosse et Patrick Blanc et de l'Italien Guido Giacomelli a bouclé la course en 6h18'48". Ils battent ainsi de plus de 12 minutes leur propre record de 2004 !

Plugged am Zermatt Unplugged -- speziell genug, um das Konzert anschliessend mit einer Plattentaufe ihres aktuellen Albums „Newz" abzuschliessen. Dass die Schotten auch anders können, bewiesen sie mit ihrer melodischen Ballade „Love Hurts". „Wir waren immer beschäftigt, spielten stets unsere Shows und waren eine Band, die immer voran ging. Wir denken da nicht mehr gross darüber nach; es ist das, was wir tun", so Pete Agnew.
