Descrizione: Giro d'Italia, Stage 16, San Vigilio Di Marebbe - Plan De Corones, individual time trial. May 26, 2008. This race is just insane! David Millar commented on the 2008 Giro after stage 16. Its a stupid race I dont like it! We are at a ski area! Leave it to the mountain bikers! said an angry Voigt who finished the stage as 11th . I dont want to sound like an old grand-mother, because I know cycling is hard. But this Giro is too much. The paved section climbs nearly 500 vertical meters with ramps as steep as 16 percent, and that was the easy part. The sterrato takes over from there. Just over 5km long, the narrow forest road winds to the top of the Plan de Corones (Kronplatz in German), a stand-alone peak serving up spectacular, 360-degree views of the towering Dolomites of Sud Tirol. The steepest bits are at the bottom and top, with ramps as steep as 20 percent and 24 percent, respectively. The gravel section stair-cased up nearly 600 vertical feet for one tough day at the office. That last kilometer is just brutal, said Ryder Hesjedal, an ex-mountain biker who rode a 38×27. Im a little more used to the loose gravel than some of these guys. I just got up it the best I could. If it was raining, it would have just been a slaughter. Team cars werent allowed to go up the road, so riders were followed by mechanics on the back of motorbikes. Each rider had one trailing mechanic, who carried spares wheels. Kronplatz - Plan De Corones Thanks to modern lift facilities, endless ski runs and best snowmaking technology the 360° panorama peak in the center of the valley Pustertal is considered as model ski area in South Tyrol. Every winter thousands of ski fans wend their way up to there in order to dash over well-groomed slopes, stop off at new and old ski lodges and to spend an excellent skiing holiday. At the foot of the snow-white, almost 2300 m high mountain there is located the lively city of Bruneck, which is known for its shopping mile, the castle with mountain museum and the romantic Christmas market. Together with 13 other villages the town forms the holiday region Kronplatz. The villages Reischach, Olang and St. Vigil are situated close by the ski lifts. The large part of the ski runs of the skiing area Kronplatz is suitable for beginners and families. If you prefer sunny slopes we recommend you those on the eastern side towards Olang. Many other pleasant pistes can be found also towards St. Vigil. Demanding and daring skiers however will enjoy the descents into the valley of Bruneck, called Sylvester and Herrnegg. Descrizione: The unique, unparalleled event on Kronplatz -- the "Locknfescht". This soaking wet spectacle shall mark the end of the skiing season with participants jumping into the cold water. It all started over a decade ago when a group of locals tried to cross the small pond, which forms from the melted snow in the Seewiese on Kronplatz every spring. Over the past twelve years the big puddle has grown bigger and bigger since it has been fed with additional amounts of water. The pond and the event have become famous far beyond the borders of South Tyrol. The Locknfescht is a most crazy event indeed. Cars without wheels, beds, bath tubs, sky rockets, desks, deckchairs and parasols, compositions of tyres, semi-nudes or fully uniformed daredevils as well as an abundance of rideable, slideable or rollable vehicles have all come down the slope and tried to make their way over the pond. It goes without saying that the event is always spiced up by hip music and plenty to eat and drink!

Only a couple of days to go for the start of the FF tests by the press, where journalists from all over the world will drive the new V12 Ferrari for the first time on the roads of the Südtirol region: two Ferrari four-seaters with four-wheel drive have been taken to the top of Plan De Corones in the Dolomites at 2350 metres, where a special ice and snow track has been prepared for the cars, located at the start of the vast ski area, where the journalists will test the cars under fierce conditions.
