Arc’teryx si allarga non poco!

Arc’teryx expands to new categories with innovative new products
December 16, 2015

Arc’teryx expands to a new footwear category with the Procline hybrid ski boot and introduces a new avalanche safety standard with the Voltair airbag backpack. Both products will be available in the 2016 winter season.
The Procline boot with revolutionary 360° rotating cuff combines the features of alpine climbing boots and lightweight ski mountaineering boots for unmatched climbing and ski performance.
The Voltair avalanche airbag introduces advanced technology designed to keep skiers and riders at the snow’s surface during an avalanche event, reducing burial depth and increasing survival rate.

The Procline Boot is the first ski alpinism boot that boasts multiple game-changing, patented performance features.
The only hybrid ski boot of its kind, the Procline Boot combines all of the features of a classic alpine climbing boot with those of a lightweight ski mountaineering boot to create a new benchmark of agility and lightness for mixed ice/rock ascents with unmatched support and power for technical ski descents.
Featuring a revolutionary, patented two-piece carbon fiber upper cuff system that is able to rotate both vertically and laterally, the Procline closes the performance gap between a traditional alpine climbing boot and a plastic ski touring boot.
“This groundbreaking cuff design allows for greater freedom of movement in the ankle for climbing the most technical mixed/ice routes, for easier and safer skin control on steep traverses, and the stiffness and support for skiing the steepest snowfields and couloirs with confidence,” says Federico Sbrissa, Arc’teryx Footwear Product Line Manager.
The fully integrated CNC machined 2-buckle system offers the best qualities of a classic mechanical buckle with the customized fit of a cable system for a smooth and secure closure of the lower shell.
The patented ascent/ski cuff system offers improved control for skinning on steep, off camber traverses with total support and rigidity for enhanced downhill skiing performance when locked.
The collection is comprised of a premium unisex version, the Procline Carbon, with a carbon fiber cuff for improved downhill performance and lateral edge control as well as the men’s Procline and women’s Procline models, boasting an innovative carbon fiber charged Grilamid cuff for a more progressive and forgiving flex.
Each model is offered with two different liner options; a 180gr ‘lite liner’ focused on walkability and reduced weight and a 250gr ‘support liner’ with a reinforced tongue and collar for improved downhill performance. All liners can be thermoformed for a customized fit.
“Designed and built for technical ascents and big mountain descents, the Procline Boot is the only boot offering the best features of the entire ski boot spectrum - capable of taking you on long, technical ascents, enabling you to climb the hardest mixed/ice routes, and providing an unmatched level of performance and support for the descent,” Sbrissa adds.
Airbag backpack with multiple deployment functionality, powerful Inflation and superior performance

Statistically proven to increase the survival rate of skiers and snowboarders caught in an avalanche, airbag backpacks have become the new cornerstone of the backcountry snow safety kit.

Introducing the new standard in avalanche safety tools, the Arc’teryx Voltair is an advanced airbag backpack designed to keep skiers and riders at the snow’s surface during an avalanche event, reducing burial depth and increasing survival rate.
Unlike traditional compressed air cylinder airbag systems that are limited to one deployment per charged cylinder, the Arc’teryx Voltair airbag system is powered by a heavy-duty 22.2V Lithium-Ion Polymer rechargeable battery that allows the user to deploy the air bag multiple times.
“Along with routine testing of the system, the multiple deployment advantage allows backcountry skiers and riders to practice deploying the airbag to better train themselves on how to react during an avalanche. In high consequence situation, you don’t rise to the occasion, you fall back on your training”, said Gordon Rose, Senior Industrial Designer at Arc’teryx.
Utilizing an advanced engineered centrifugal blower to fill the 150 Litre balloon, the Voltair system delivers more initial pressure than any other battery powered avalanche airbag system on the market. This superior system ensures the balloon deploys rapidly, consistently and continuously - even if small tears or punctures result from colliding with hard objects like trees and rocks.
Another exclusive advantage of the Voltair’s rechargeable battery is its high-grade automotive quick connector for convenient assembly of the system, while also allowing to disconnect the battery completely from the backpack in order to meet air transportation safety regulations.
“Compressed air cylinder airbag systems cannot be easily transported on planes as the cylinders must be emptied and refilled at the final destination - something not always accessible in remote backcountry locations”, said Rose.
The Voltair’s sophisticated battery system is extremely robust and is also field rechargeable with a special adapter for portable power sources, solar panels and wind turbines, among others.

Other innovative features that set the Voltair airbag apart include its unique mechanical ‘always available’ trigger handle that is permanently accessible and can be quickly unlocked to deploy the airbag during descent.

Using proven designs from its award-winning climbing harness technology, the Voltair employs an easy-to-use, one-handed wire gate leg loop/harness system that solidly secures the airbag to the body.

Available in 20L and 30L volume, the fully seam-sealed Voltair is constructed with waterproof N400r-AC² nylon 6 ripstop body fabric with WaterTight™ zippers for top and side access to the two main compartments. Both sizes offer dedicated compartments for additional snow safety equipment like shovels and probes. Front lash ladders and straps diagonally carry skis or snowboard while ice/mountaineering tool loops keep everything else in place for a stable and safe ride.
“The technologies used in the Voltair pack completely advance the concept of avalanche airbag design, presenting an absolute paradigm shift in how skiers and riders will approach backcountry safety in the future”, Rose concludes.
Both products will be available to purchase in fall 2016
