The Freeride World Tour Expands to Six Stages in 2011

After the success of its three previous editions, the Freeride World Tour 2011 grows from four to six tour stops with new events in St. Moritz, Switzerland, and Fieberbrunn, Austria. The world's best freeride skiers and snowboarders will once again be going head-to-head in search of the 2011 world title. Spectacular action guaranteed on some of the planet's most challenging mountains!
NISSAN XTREME BY SWATCH - VERBIER 2010 / C. MARGOTThe 2011 tour for male riders will kick off mid-January at the mecca of freeriding, Chamonix-Mt-Blanc in France. The athletes will then travel the globe to five more destinations in Europe, Russia and North America. The female riders have their own tour schedule, competing at the Freeride World Qualifyer events *. They will then join the men for the grande finale in Verbier, Switzerland, at the prestigious Nissan Xtreme by Swatch, celebrating its 16th edition.

In Verbier the battle for the world title 2011 will determine who will follow in the footsteps of reigning World Champions Candide Thovex, FRA (men ski), Ane Enderud, NOR (women ski), Xavier de Le Rue, FRA (men snowboard), and Aline Bock GER (women snowboard).

"I'm delighted to announce the schedule for the fourth edition of the Freeride World Tour (FWT). With Fieberbrunn and St. Moritz as new FWT tour stops we are making a major move into the Germanic part of Europe. I'm also really pleased that Nissan and Swatch continue to be FWT partners and that major snow industry players such as Scott and DaKine see the FWT as the premier tour in this rapidly developing and exciting sport. Our goal is to deliver the best in big mountain Freeride competition. We're well positioned once again to do that in 2011," commentsFreeride World Tour founder and organiser, Nicolas Hale-Woods.

No no.. partono dove c'è il pilone della funivia..

Alcuni itinerari carini li, d'accordo. Ma Fieberbrunn non e per niente un secret spot, anzi. Nel mondo del Freeride e molto conosciuto in Austria e Germania. Percio quando c'e la neve giusta, c'e anche molta concorrenza.
Ci sono tanti altri posti piu interessanti in Tirolo secondo me.

Quando siamo andati io e Simone infatti abbiamo trovato un bel pò di freerider per la giornata non propriamente epica...

The World’s Top Riders Confirmed for the Freeride World Tour 2011

The best riders on the best mountains in the ultimate freeride competition

Verbier, Switzerland – October 14, 2010 – The best freeriders on the planet are already gearing up for their shot at the prestigious Freeride World Tour 2011 title and more than $250,000 USD in prize money on the new six-stop international tour.

Reigning World Champions Candide Thovex, FRA (men’s ski), Ane Enderud, NOR (women’s ski), Xavier de Le Rue, FRA (men’s snowboard), and Aline Bock GER (women’s snowboard) will be back on the 2011 tour to defend their title against an international field of skiers and snowboarders that are all hungry for the world’s ultimate freeride title.

Men’s Ski
The Freeride World Tour 2010 was one of the most exciting editions of FWT history with the final crown being won in a close competition by French skiing icon Candide Thovex in his rookie year on the tour. The 2011 Tour will be even more competitive with 2008 World Champion and 2010 third-place finisher Henrik Windstedt (SWE), more committed than ever, and 2009 winner Aurélien Ducroz, from Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, in France, hungry to regain his title, starting off the season in his home town. In addition there is a particularly electric group of wild cards for 2011 including Norwegian upstart Torgrim Vole, Swiss chargers Jérémie Heitz and Samuel Anthammaten, and the legendary US skier JT Holmes, who will be putting it all on the line for their chance to claim the highly-coveted Freeride World Tour Champion title.

"2010 was a trial year for me on the Freeride World Tour. Competing with the best riders in the world creates a truly positive and permanent evolution of the sport. My objective in 2011 is to defend my World Freeride Champion title. I’ll be under a lot of pressure but more than anything else I’ll be competing on the FWT for my own pleasure. That’s how I improve. The two new events on the schedule are two more chances for us to express ourselves and throw down tricks during a run with less pressure." Candide Thovex, Freeride World Tour 2010 Champion.

Men’s Snowboard
Will 3-time Freeride World Tour Champion Xavier de Le Rue from France continue to dominate or will this year’s remarkable lineup of wild cards Flo Orley (AUT), Martin Cernik (CZE), James Stentiford (UK) and Andy Finch (USA) be able to knock him off his throne? The man who many believe is unbeatable, Xavier de Le Rue, says bring it on: “Every year since the beginning I've been impressed by the way the tour has continually improved year after year. Where will it go this year? Can't wait to find out!

Women’s Ski
The women’s events have been expanded to include three Freeride World Tour events; Chamonix, Kirkwood and Verbier, and three 4-star Freeride World Qualifier events. This new format will open the competition to many more of the growing number of outstanding women freeriders and will result in increased media focus, spotlighting what is sure to be a very exciting women’s tour.

The importance of the women’s title is explained by Women’s Freeride World Champion 2010, Ane Enderud from Norway, “Winning the Freeride World Tour for both years that I have competed on it has changed my life for sure. Going into my third season on the tour and wanting to defend my title is definitely a challenge but challenge can be fun! My main mission is to be physically and mentally strong, to be healthy and enjoy life. If I’m healthy and focused I believe I can do whatever I want and that includes winning the tour again.”

Women’s Snowboard
In women’s snowboard, the new schedule including six main events will now open the race for the final overall title to a wider group of riders. Women’s Snowboarding Freeride World Tour 2010 Champion Aline Bock from Germany states, “I’ve competed in the last two seasons in the Freeride World Tour and I am more than happy to have finished the 2010 season as Freeride World Champion. Of course, I will try to defend the title in 2011 again. The level of women’s freeriding has risen over the past few seasons and I would really like to push it as far as it goes in the FWT 2011 competitions.

Important :
The riders who are eligible for the FWT 11 will be personally invited to participate by e-mail.

All riders who are not eligible for the FWT but willing to participate in the FWQ have to announce themselves to each individual organizer of the FWQ event they are planning to take part in, this latest two months prior to the event. Each individual FWQ organiser will then confirm to the applicant rider whether he will be eligible or not.

How can I get a wild card for a FWQ event ?
The distribution of wild cards on FWQ events is an exclusive right of each individual FWQ organizer. Priority will be given to local talent and winners of sister Open events in the distribution of these.

What type of insurance do I need ?

All riders have the obligation to contract an insurance which will cover their costs in case of accident (including transportation/heli costs to hospital). Riders should carefully check that their insurance is effective in all the countries where they are competing and that they are covered in case of particpation in an extreme freeride contest. In the disclaimers that each rider will have to sign when entering a contest, it will be mentionned that he has checked the above.

What is the minimum age required to compete in a FWQ event ?

The minimum age is 18 for all FWT and FWQ events. No exception will be made.

Who should I ask if I did not understand the above explanations ?

All FWQ riders have to address their questions to the organizers of the FWQ events they are willing to participate in.
